Feldkirch, 12. Jänner, 11:30 Uhr. In einer friedlichen, aber entschiedenen Aktion haben 70 Aktivist:innen heute eine bunte Straßenblockade am Tunnelspinnen-Desinformationszentrum in Feldkirch errichtet. Auf mehreren großen, bunten Bannern waren Botschaften wie „Tunnelspinne Stoppen!“ und „Klimagerechtigkeit jetzt – in Vorarlberg und überall“ zu lesen. Am Protest waren neben Extinction Rebellion und sympathisierenden Bürger:innen auch weitere Gruppen der internationalen Klimabewegung wie „Letzte Generation“ und „Ende Gelände“ beteiligt. Der Druck auf die Landesregierung, das Projekt zu beenden wächst. Bei den Aktivist:innen kamen ausgefallene Blockadeelemente wie Tripods und Rohre zum Einsatz. Außerdem kletterten sie auf Ampeln und Laternen, um ein riesiges Spinnennetz über die Straße zu spannen. Polizeikräfte sind vor Ort im Einsatz. Es wird mit mindestens 50 Festnahmen gerechnet.
Tunnelspinne: Finanzieller und ökologischer Schaden für Vorarlberg
Als „Generationenprojekt“ wird der Bau der Tunnelspinne vom Infozentrum beworben. Das ist angesichts der voranschreitenden Klimakrise für die Protestierenden besonders zynisch. Sie fordern eine transparente Kommunikation über die ökologischen und finanziellen Folgen des Projekts.
„Wir sind verärgert über die Irreführung der Öffentlichkeit durch das sogenannte ‚Infozentrum‘, das in der Realität ein Zentrum für Desinformation ist. Ein Projekt, das wirklich im Interesse der Bevölkerung steht, braucht keine einseitige und teure Werbekampagne“, erklärte Caroline Scholl-Poensgen (27) von Extinction Rebellion. „Die ‚Tunnelspinne‘ ist ein fatales Vorhaben, das sowohl ökologisch als auch finanziell für alle Menschen in Vorarlberg erheblichen Schaden bringen wird. Der ganzen Welt ist klar, dass fossile Investitionen den Planeten unbewohnbar machen und Millarden Menschen in Leid, Flucht und Tod zwingen.„
Internationale Solidarität und lokaler Kampf
Der Protest richtet sich zwar gegen ein konkretes lokales Projekt, ist aber Teil einer globalen Widerstandsbewegung gegen fossile Investitionen. Aus diesem Grund waren beim heutigen Protest auch Gruppen aus anderen Ländern vertreten. „Trotz der Versprechen nahezu aller Regierungen, werden weiter hunderte Millarden weltweit in die Zerstörung unserer Lebensgrundlagen investiert. Wir stehen zusammen mit allen Gruppen, die weltweit für Klimagerechtigkeit kämpfen. Denn dieser Kampf wird sowohl lokal als auch global geführt.“ so eine Rednerin auf der unangemeldeten Versammlung.
Aufruf zur Handlung und Transparenz
Extinction Rebellion fordert die sofortige Einstellung des Bauvorhabens. „Wir werden nicht aufhören, zu protestieren und uns für eine gerechte Zukunft einzusetzen. Es ist Zeit, die Dinge beim Namen zu nennen: Fossile Investitionen bedeuten den Tod

Feldkirch, January 12, 11:30 AM. In a peaceful but determined action, 70 activists today established a colorful street blockade at the Tunnelspinne Disinformation Center in Feldkirch. Several large, colorful banners displayed messages such as „Stop Tunnelspinne!“ and „Climate Justice Now – in Vorarlberg and Everywhere“. The protest included not only Extinction Rebellion and sympathetic citizens but also other groups from the international climate movement like „Last Generation“ and „Ende Gelände“. Pressure on the state government to end the project is growing. The activists used unusual blockade elements like tripods and pipes. They also climbed traffic lights and lampposts to stretch a huge spider web across the street. Police forces are on site. At least 50 arrests are expected.
Tunnelspinne: Financial and Ecological Damage to Vorarlberg
The construction of Tunnelspinne is promoted by the information center as a „generation project“. This is particularly cynical in the face of the advancing climate crisis, according to the protesters. They demand transparent communication about the ecological and financial consequences of the project.
„We are upset about the public’s deception by the so-called ‚Information Center‘, which in reality is a center for disinformation. A project that truly serves the interests of the population does not need a one-sided and expensive advertising campaign,“ stated Caroline Scholl-Poensgen (27) from Extinction Rebellion. „The ‚Tunnelspinne‘ is a disastrous endeavor that will cause significant ecological and financial harm to all people in Vorarlberg. The entire world understands that fossil investments make the planet uninhabitable, forcing billions into suffering, displacement, and death.“
International Solidarity and Local Struggle
Although the protest is against a specific local project, it is part of a global resistance movement against fossil investments. That’s why groups from other countries were present at today’s protest. „Despite almost every government’s promises, hundreds of billions are still being invested worldwide in the destruction of our livelihoods. We stand together with all groups fighting for climate justice worldwide. Because this fight is both local and global,“ said a speaker at the unregistered assembly.
Call to Action and Transparency
Extinction Rebellion demands the immediate cessation of the construction project. „We will not stop protesting and advocating for a just future. It’s time to call things by their name: Fossil investments mean death to our civilization,“ concluded Christian Alther (26). The next protest is already scheduled for January 31 during the state parliament meeting in Bregenz.
